You must have seen that many people in the world have black, brown, green and blue eyes. But do you know how different people with blue eyes are from others? Today we will tell you what research scientists have done on people with blue eyes and how different they are from others.
Blue Eye
You must have noticed that apart from being black and brown, many people also have blue eyes. But do you know how different people with blue eyes are from the rest of the world? In a new study, scientists have done research on people with blue eyes. The research has revealed that every person in the world with blue eyes may have a single ancestor. The research was conducted under the leadership of Professor Hans Eberg of the Cellular and Molecular Department of Copenhagen University. In this research, a gene mutation that occurred 6 to 10 thousand years ago has been identified. This mutation has caused blue eyes in humans. This gene mutation has caused a change in the OCA2 gene.
why are eyes blue
Let us tell you that mutations in the OCA2 gene can cause changes in the P protein, which can affect the formation and spread of melanin. This can lead to conditions like oculocutaneous albinism, where individuals produce very little or no melanin. This is the reason why there is very fair skin, light colored hair and light colored eyes. At the same time, the OCA2 gene is also associated with variations in eye color in the general population, as different versions of the gene affect the amount and distribution of melanin in the iris, which can result in different eye colors.
What came out in the research
In the study, Professor Eberg has said that this gene turns on and off the ability to give brown colour to the eyes like a switch. Which affects the formation of melanin. On this basis, scientists came to the conclusion that all people with blue eyes must have the same ancestor. But for this, researchers have investigated the eye colour and their mitochondrial DNA of many countries including Jordan, Denmark, Turkey. They say that it has nothing to do with the struggle for existence and neither does it indicate any good or bad effect. It only tells how nature continuously keeps changing the human genome, due to which many changes are seen in humans too.
